I've been using calire pretty mich since I bought my Sony - it does exactly what I need it todo, a great piece of open source software. I've been meaning to do a writeup on it one of these days.

I have to started to use free software called “Calibre”. It works fine with my linux machine but they have a version for windows and mac also. This software is much easier to use than the sony software imo.

Thanks Rob. I've only just noticed your reply after 4 months. However, on trying yet again to download Reader Library it tells me it isn't compatible with my computer. At first I had Vista but now I've upgraded to Windows 7. But it don't make any difference. When I was dealing with it this afternoon, it seemed it was thinking I was using XP. I was wondering whether it was compatible with that. But my partner's pc has XP and the software was no good on that either. Most of the time it says Library is not responding, but when I was looking at the trouble shooter it told me it was incompatible. What do I do please? Thanks so much for your previous reply.

I guess it depends what you're looking for. All I wanted my reader for was to read books. I doubt very much if I'm ever going to read more that 300 books at once, so I have no need for an SD expansion slot – instead I keep all my books on my backup drive at home. Also I don't really feel the need to pay for an MP3 players (i.e. the 505). For me the 300 was the right balance between price and functionality.

Hi Doreen,

When you connect the Reader to your laptop via the USB cable can you see two new harddrives "Reader" and "Launcher" under "My Computer" within Vista? If you can see this then if you double click on Launcher, you should see a couple of files (I don't have the reader here at the moment) but one of them should be a setup file. If you double click on this then it should start to download and install the Sony software. You might have the same problem that I had (as described above). If you do, please can you reply with the error message that is displayed. This will help jog my memory as to what the fix was.

I've got one of these for Xmas. Could you please tell me how you transfer the library of books off your laptop into the ereader? I have Vista also. I just find the whole thing very complicated. I had to take it back to the Sony centre as it was stuck in German and had to get the sales man to show me how to get it back to English.

I would be grateful to receive any help asap. Thanks a lot!
